An important aspect of McFarlane's success is their focus on the design-build approach. Neil McFarlane has been involved with the Canadian Design Build Institute since it's inception, and currently serves as chair of the Standards of Practice Committee. McFarlane has offered design-build services since the 1960's.

Today, with larger more complex projects, McFarlane has engineers on staff and works closely with a number of architectural and engineering consultants to provide top quality, cost efficient designs and integrated construction services for their clients.
